Mentor Home Support Worker

Pathways Community Services Association is an Aboriginal agency that draws jointly from the strengths and guidance of Aboriginal teachings and traditions and from evidence-based practices in human services to support vulnerable children, youth and families. We are seeking a Mentor Home Support Worker for our Aboriginal Mentor Home program.

The Aboriginal Mentor Homes program is a community-based residential program designed to meet the individualized needs of Aboriginal youth ages 12-to 17 years. Youth live in family homes that are similar to foster homes. Through the supports available in the program, youth stabilize, form caring relationships, and gain the skills, readiness, and confidence to prepare them for healthy adult life.

Mentor Home Support Workers:

  • teach, encourage, and coach families to better support the youth living in their home

  • provide intensive support, guidance, and teaching directly to youth

  • support youth for success in school

  • plan, develop and engage in positive activities in the community with youth

  • support families and youth in crisis situations on an on-call basis

  • encourage youth to explore their Aboriginal heritage

 The ideal candidate will have:    

  • degree in Human Services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • willingness to embrace Aboriginal culture as a pillar of practice and to add to their knowledge and understanding in this area

  • 2-5 years’ experience working with vulnerable children and/or families

  • Understanding of the impact of trauma, loss and grief on child development and behavior

  • strong teamwork skills

  • confidence to work well with both parents and youth

  • good organizational and data management skills

  • a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license.
